The Technical Project Manager (TPM) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the mechanical and piping discipline within Balance of Plant (BoP) systems, including water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, fire protection systems, compressed air plants, and other supporting facilities. The role may also cover additional construction areas as required by the project.

The Technical Project Manager ensures that all discipline-related activities comply with design specifications, applicable technical standards, and overall project requirements, while meeting cost, schedule, quality, and safety objectives. The role works in close collaboration with Plant Unit Project Managers, Construction Managers, and other cross-functional Technical Project Managers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and piping activities across the project.

Key responsibilities include managing contractors and suppliers, monitoring progress and costs, mitigating technical risks, and ensuring that quality and documentation requirements are fulfilled. The Technical Project Manager also supports procurement activities with technical expertise, evaluates change requests, and drives continuous improvement through the application of lessons learned.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Project Execution

Manage all activities related to the mechanical and piping discipline, ensuring compliance with design specifications, technical standards, and project requirements.

Ensure discipline-related work aligns with design-to-cost principles and agreed project schedules.

Integrate mechanical and piping scope into the overall plant unit in close coordination with Plant Unit Project Managers and Construction Managers.

Provide regular updates on discipline progress and escalate issues when required.

Review and approve all discipline deliverables to ensure quality, completeness, and compliance.

Contractor & Supplier Management

Oversee contractors and suppliers (engineering partners, OEMs, construction partners, and consultants), ensuring work is delivered on time and meets quality standards.

Assess resource needs and adjust team activities to meet project objectives and timelines.

Risk, Quality & Documentation

Identify technical risks and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to mitigate and resolve issues.

Ensure all technical work is properly documented and that reporting is accurate and timely.

Provide guidance on discipline-specific methodologies, standards, and best practices.

Cost, Schedule & Change Management

Track discipline progress and report status to the Construction Area Project Manager.

Monitor expenses, manage costs, and identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising quality or safety.

Report financial performance and cost control updates to relevant project stakeholders.

Review and evaluate change requests, assessing impacts on scope, schedule, and budget.

Implement approved changes effectively while maintaining project integrity and alignment.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

Facilitate collaboration with other Technical Project Managers to ensure cross-discipline integration.

Identify opportunities for process improvements within the discipline.

Capture and apply lessons learned from previous projects to improve future performance.

Competencies and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design, construction, and installation of mechanical and piping systems within industrial projects.

Strong technical knowledge of mechanical and piping systems in complex industrial environments.

Familiarity with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.

Proven leadership and stakeholder management capabilities.

Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
